Are experienced models offended by alternative payment methods? (i.e. a garment in exchange for their service or a gift cert toward's the designer's line) Will agencies allow signed models to do shows without monetary compensation? |

I know many agency models who do charity or causal events for no compensation (Love Your Body Day, Divabetic, Breast Cancer Fundraisers, etc.) or compensation by product or a gift bag, etc.
If it is a show that is commercial in nature (basically the M.O. of the show is to sell the product, not to raise funds for a charity) I think most models expect compensation, or else the level of model's experience might be lower. I think you can get many "aspiring" models to do shows for experience or exposure or photos, etc. but experienced models really are not in need of the exposure or experience, as they already have it.
I have done shows for many charity/cause events. I do not mind donating my time to something I support. However when I am doing, for example, a series of shows for a Bridal company, I will be compensated monetarily, usually on a per show basis.
Obviously anything that goes through an agency is going to be for the model's rate. Yes, they can often be negotiated, but it is not going to be for product, gift cert, etc.

I've done trunk shows for $500 for 2 hours call, mall 'style sessions' for $350 with 2 shows same day, large scale shows for anywhere from $250-$600 depending on the production. There's no rhyme or reason to it.
Yes, I get offered clothes as comp but my landlord prefers money for the rent so I tend not to take those kinds of gigs unless I would actually wear the clothes I'm working and that is a rare thing. Sorry I can't be more specific for you but it really is one of those open-to-negotiation things, even when the booking goes through an agent.
