| | Subject: Vessel Sinks | Posted: March 1, 2008 @ 4:41 AM | | I'm about to redo a bath and add a half bath in preparation for some elderly relatives who will frequently be staying with me for extended periods of time. Some of you know I bought a vintage home about a year ago and have been slowly working on renovating.
So anyway..... I have my eye on some Mexican Talavera vessel sinks for this project, although classic undermount options are available. I love the look of vessel sinks and have an idea to convert an antique dresser or wash stand to a modern plumbed sink, but retaining the vintage feel.
My questions are these ..... does anyone have a vessel sink? How do you like it? Does the raised bowl drive you crazy, and if so would you switch to a classic undermount sink if you could do over? Or do you love both its look AND functionality? What sort of counter surface do you have? Do you really advise investing in a marble top, or will a million coats of high grade polyurethane do the trick to protect the original wood surface from water? |

Coming from the generation of those funky recessed sinks in cabinets - this one is magnificent. We found a really neat funky dark wood cart/table we liked and purchased it - it is all exposed - no doors or drawers and had them work it. My friend Michelle and Siobhan did it for us. They waterproofed the cart/table and one of the engineers did the mounting.
The only factor consideration is that this isn't a highly used bathroom - we use it and if we are entertaining in the kitchen/breakfast area/family room the guest use it but it is no more than washing hand - no brushing teeth, etc. That may be our saving grace. |
