Indian is not a style that I've used personally in my home, but what I tend to do when I want to experiment with a new look is to do some research and see what inspires me. If you can find an example of a window treatment that you'd like to do, but aren't sure how to approach it, I suspect that there are several of us in this forum that could offer tips to achieve the look. There are a lot of products out there that would help you avoid sewing, too.
What I found interesting was looking at the authentic Indian pieces that overstock.com has at the moment. You might see something there that will inspire you:

My best tip is to think outside the box. If you love the pattern of a sheet and wish you could find that look in a curtain - then why not turn it into a curtain? That's an extremely easy thing to do. A long scarf can become a window treatment. It's all about the imagination and what inspires you.
Good luck! |

Another possibility is buying a sheet and playing with it. I have a friend, who is an interior designer, and she bought two sheets and made her son's curtains - no showing - she draped and wrapped - the ends looked like turbans - it was so cool. |
