| | Subject: American Meal | Posted: March 18, 2009 @ 7:26 AM | | | Hellooo. This is my first time posting here. I am studying abroad in England and I live with other international students. We have international meals where each of us cooks something from our country. It's my turn next and I have NO idea what to make. I mean, I have some ideas. But theres some ingredients that they don't have here. I wanted to make chili but they dont have chili powder mix at this store. And my mom swears its Mexican. But I was going to make American chili. I also thought about making chicken bake. But I know a lot of people want me to make cheeseburgers! lol. That's what they think is American, which it is. But I wanted to make something they cant walk to Mcdonalds and get. Any ideas? |

SOUTHERN FRIED CHICKEN
• Dip chicken pieces in evaporated milk mixed with a little egg before dipping in the dry coating mixture.
• Use a plastic or brown paper bag to coat the chicken with the dry coating mixture.
• Add some fiber (and texture) by adding bran or wheat germ to your coating mixture.
• To make the coating stick better, refrigerate the coated chicken (uncovered) for 30 to 60 minutes before frying.
• Try cracker meal or unsweetened cereals for coating mixtures.
• For super crispy fried chicken, use half flour and half cornstarch, with your usual seasonings and 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder.
• For a dry crispy coating, fry until browned, then finish cooking in a 350° oven.
• Younger chickens, broilers, capons, fryers, roasters and game hens are best for frying.
BAKED MAC N CHEESE
INGREDIENTS
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
• 1 1/4 cups milk
• 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
• 1 1/2 cups macaroni
DIRECTIONS
1. Cook pasta in a large pot of boiling salted water until al dente. Drain.
2. Mix together condensed soup and cheese. Using the empty soup can, measure 1 can of milk; mix into the soup mixture. Stir in cooked pasta. Dump into a greased casserole dish, and cover.
3. Bake at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) for 45 minutes.

| | | | | | Subject: American Meal | Posted: March 18, 2009 @ 1:49 PM | | | Im in Wolverhampton, England. I think thats a great idea. I was thinking about making mac and cheese cause your the 4th person to suggest it but the texture of their cheese here is different and I dont know if I could pull it off. Well what I mean is that when its melted it's a lil different. I guess I just want it to taste 100% American which is silly cause Im in England so things taste different. I think I may go with fried chicken and mac and cheese and some green beans or corn on the cob. This is definetely starting to look like my best option. yay. :o) Thanks for the recipes! |
